macOS is the latest OS developed by Apple Inc. It is the OS which you will find on every Apple computer. It is said to be the second most widely used OS after Microsoft Windows. It is based on UNIX. It is designed specifically for the hardware it runs on, and as a result it may be comparatively faster than other laptops with similar configuration. The original version of macOS was known as “Mac OS” and was released in 1984. It was only in 2006 that the OS was released for Intel PCs and from 1999-2005 used to be available only on PowerPCs, which is a technology created by the 1991 Apple–IBM–Motorola alliance.
The current Mac operating system is macOS, originally named “Mac OS X” until 2012 and then “OS X” until 2016. Developed between 1997 and 2001 after Apple’s purchase of NeXT, Mac OS X brought an entirely new architecture based on NeXTSTEP, a Unix system, that eliminated many of the technical challenges that the classic Mac OS faced. NeXT was a company that original Apple co-founder Steve Jobs created after leaving Apple in 1985. The current macOS comes preinstalled on every Mac. It is the basis of Apple’s current system software for its other devices including iOS, watchOS and tvOS.
